


You pretty much get the box, a plastic enclosure, and warranty/guide booklets. *- The OCZ Trion 150, like most SSDs, isn’t bundled with a bunch of accessories or surprises. It’s hard to judge an SSD, or really any hardware product, within a few days instead of months and months–in these cases benchmarks are really what a reviewer relies on however, I have hope for the OCZ Trion 150, and so far the time I spent with it has been encouraging. I don’t have a great track record with OCZ, though most of my experience with them was before they were bought out by Toshiba. Now, especially with the OCZ Trion 150, you’re looking at less than 25 cents a gig.
I’d dare to proclaim that the Trion 150 is likely the most budget friendly SSD for its performance. The Trion 150 960gb model sports an amazing price. The Trion 150 is a bang for the buck product, if there ever has been. Its setup was like any other internal storage drive: SATA power/data hookup, disk initialization, and formatting of partition ready to roll.- The Trion 150 doesn’t perform as well as some of my higher end SSDs in my system, but those SSDs were purchased or marked at a much higher price.

The “Other 500GB” SSD I tested with the Trion is a much more expensive SSD however, it is 66% occupied. All numerals are defined as Megabytes Per Second unless otherwise specified. If you aren’t terribly concerned about the SSDs’ raw performance (trust me, it’ll be much faster than a traditional HDD), then the Trion is a great pickup.* Below are benchmarks I performed on the OCZ Trion 150 960GB SSD. You really can’t beat spending less than 25 cents a gig for an SSD. However, taking all of this into account, OCZ’s Trion 150 is a great budget SSD. Its inability to stay competitive when writing large files is the Trion 150’s largest drawback.
4/5Reliability - This is a bit hard to reliably measure. Ultimately, the Trion is at a good price point, and when there are sales and rebates it occasionally hits a GREAT price point. If I put it up against a more comparable crucial BX200, the Trion is signficantly faster and costs a bit less, but might have a shorter life span. I'll break down this particular drive with that in mind.Price - The Samsung 850 EVO (a drive all SSDs are compared against) costs between 50-100% more in an equivalent size, but it's without question a better performing and more reliable drive, so that makes sense. So, ultimately what I'm really concerned about with SSDs comes down to price, reliability, with performance as a distant third. Practically any SSD, regardless of its performance level will be faster and draw less power than even high end HDDs, yet people still buy those and (to an extent) are happy with the performance (most of the time).

Even setting aside the speed difference between ssds and hdds, the difference between 300 MB/s and 500 MB/s is rarely noticeable. 3/5Performance - This seems to be even harder to quantify than reliability. For now, a tarnished reputation means a risk, but with a potential reward of a fairly strong drive at a good price. Toshiba (still not a top shelf brand, but a good one) recently bought OCZ and have been trying to move them to a better light, but that will take time. For instance, in cases where someone posts a review stating that they had multiple bad drives.is it possible that the person didn't know that they would first have to format the drive for it to become recognized? Do they know how to handle computer equipment without frying it? In this case, the real issue is that OCZ has a long and storied history of unreliable ssds.
3.5/5Pros: The OCZ Trion 150 arrived unformatted with a small pamphlet that pointed to the OCZ web site for firmware updates. The Trion lands somewhere between "good" and "pretty good". Again, ultimately I find myself forming an opinion based off of an ever changing set of facts, and I end up gauging them based off of what's "good", "pretty good" or "Great" ("bad" having equivalent opposites). It's entirely possible to have different results performing the same test multiple times on the same drive.
